- She told the show’s co-hosts, Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, that she wanted to complete the challenge so her twins would be proud of her
Jennifer Lopez took her postpartum body training to a whole new level.
The Kiss of the Spider Woman star, 56, appeared on the Wednesday, Oct. 8 episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, and recalled when she decided to participate in a triathlon six months after giving birth to her twins, Emme and Max, 17. She shares the teens with ex-husband Marc Anthony, 57.
As the actress chatted with co-hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers about her passion for musical theater, she shared that she performed a rendition of Funny Girl’s “You Are Woman, I Am Man” for Anthony’s 40th birthday. While she recounted the memory, she nonchalantly added through a chuckle, “I had ran a triathlon that day.”
After she, Yang and Rogers laughed over her “casual” accomplishment, she explained what motivated her to do the triathlon.
“When I was still pregnant, I was like I’m going to do a triathlon when the kids [are born and] after I give birth to get back into shape,” she said. “I was like, I’m giving myself a goal.”

The “On the Floor” singer also shared that while she was pregnant, she went into a room in her home and saw her American Music Award from 2007 and was excited, thinking to herself that it was something her children could be proud of her.
She noted that accomplishing the triathlon was similar to that mentality. “The triathlon was part of that,” she said. “I want them to be proud of me.”
“Now, I’ve told them the story. They couldn’t care less. Like ‘Okay, you ran a triathlon.’ But, one day, maybe they’ll think of it and go, ‘Wow, my mom ran a triathlon six months after she had me.’ ”

Meanwhile, Lopez candidly shared that she was pleased with her performance, however, she confessed that the swimming portion was daunting.
“The swim is the crazy thing,” she said. “You go and you’re looking at the ocean for the first time and you’re like, ‘I’m going swimming to the buoy. Not the first one. The third one? I’m sure there’s sharks out there.’
During her conversation with Yang, 34, and Rogers, 35, she also shared how she was able to reconnect with her twins after taking a whole year off.
“But last year when I had to cancel my tour, and I took a whole year off, I finished [Kiss of the Spider Woman] last March, and I didn’t start another movie until this following March [when] I did Office Romance,” she shared. “And during that year, literally just sat in like a rocking chair.”
“I was with my kids. I really wanted them to feel me and I didn’t wanna be away from them. And we reconnected in a way because I’ve always been a working single mom for most of their life,” she explained.
“And so it was so nice for them to have me there every single day for a year, which was so different for them and for me.”

Co-host Kelly Ripa told Lopez she’s going to love it, and the mom of two said that she has an “inkling” she might love some of it.
“But also always making a home that they want to come back to, right? That was the goal for me since they were born,” the “On the Floor” singer responded. “Whatever this is, whatever we create, the three of us together, it’s going to be something that they always are like, ‘When I go home, it feels good. It smells like home, it tastes like home.’ All of it.’ And I always concentrated on that with them. And I feel like we’ve created that.”
Ripa went on to say that 17 can be a tough age. Lopez explained that she was in a “brutal” phase a few years ago, but the three of them have found a better rhythm since.
“But now they’re 17, they’ll be 18 in February. They’re graduating this June from high school and I feel like, we’re close,” the proud mom said. “We’re a close-knit three now. A lot has happened with us.”
“Well they’re advanced then. They got normal earlier,” joked Ripa.
“We had to bond together, you know what I mean? That kind of changed things and made it really beautiful for us,” Lopez said.

Jennifer Lopez appeared surprised when spotting her ex-husband Ben Affleck at the New York City premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman.
In a video shared to Instagram by Access Hollywood, Lopez, 56, is seen turning around during an interview on Monday, Oct. 6’s red carpet and seeing Affleck, 53, behind her. While Lopez spoke with the outlet’s reporter Emily Orozco about her childrens’ reaction to her performance in the her first movie-musical, Affleck walked into the frame with Lopez’s costar Tonatiuh from behind.
“Yes, they loved it,” Lopez said as Affleck called out to her and asked her to pose for a photo. “Hey, you’re here! Yes, I’ll get in the picture right now,” she said to Affleck, who’s an executive producer on the project.
Lopez turned back to the reporter to finish answering her question. “They’re excited, they invited their friend here tonight, so we’re all excited, we’re going to have a big family night,” she said. When the reporter noted that Affleck asked Lopez to take a photo, she said, “Yes, we’re gonna do a photo right now,” and moved over to greet Affleck and pose with him and Tonatiuh, 30.
Before rekindling his relationship with Lopez, Affleck dated Ana de Armas and was previously married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018. For her part, Lopez was engaged to Alex Rodriguez before they called it quits in 2021, and she was previously married to Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014.
Affleck also shares three kids — Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13 — with Garner. Meanwhile, Lopez shares twins Max and Emme, 17, with ex-husbandAnthony.
The Argo director and Lopez made headlines when they reunited in 2021 after splitting from their respective partners at the time. Lopez and Affleck announced their engagement in April 2022 before secretly tying the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony in July that year. They wed in a larger ceremony in Georgia the following month.
Lopez filed for divorce on Aug. 20, 2024, the exact anniversary of their Georgia nuptials. Their split was finalized in January.
Months after their divorce, Affleck broke his silence about their relationship in a wide-ranging interview with GQ for their April cover story, telling the outlet that his life is “pretty drama-free” post-split, even though divorce is widely considered the opposite.
After his GQ interview, a source exclusively told Parade that Affleck broke his silence on the matter so people could finally move on.
“He’s really tired of people asking about his split with Jennifer, so he addressed it and hopes people will stop asking and move on like he has,” the insider told Parade at the time. “They were a family and he’ll always love her kids. Their kids go to the same school and are still close, so they still see each other from time to time and there’s no bad blood or drama there.”

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s kids are still in each other’s lives despite the former couple’s divorce, a source exclusively tells Parade.
“Both of them still love one another’s children, and the children have remained close,” says the insider. “Ben’s middle child [Seraphina, 16] goes to the same school as J.Lo’s twins [Max and Emme, 17], so they all see each other. They were all family, and that mentality has never changed. The divorce was hard for the kids, too.”

Affleck, 53, and Lopez, 56, recently reunited on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman, in which Lopez stars. Affleck and longtime pal Matt Damon’s production company, Artists Equity, co-produced the Hustlers alum’s first movie-musical.
After their red carpet run-in, a separate source close to the “Let’s Get Loud” singer told Parade earlier this week that there’s “no bad blood” between the two despite their split.
“They were both bummed it didn’t work out, and Jennifer wanted it to so badly,” the insider said. “The divorce was extremely hard for her. There’s a lot of respect still there.”
Affleck and Lopez first got together in 2002 after meeting on the set of the romantic comedy Gigli, and they got engaged that same year. The duo eventually went their separate ways after calling it quits in early 2004.
“Happy birthday mommy!! I love you so very much!! Thank you for being there for me always …🤍🤍 #TheLupinator,” Lopez wrote in the caption of Rodríguez, who shares the star with David Lopez. (The pair split in 1999 after 33 years of marriage.)
Written and directed by Bill Condon, Kiss of the Spider Woman is an adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Terrence McNally, which in turn was based on the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig. The story was previously adapted for a 1985 film starring William Hurt, Raul Julia and Sônia Braga, while the new movie stars Lopez, Tonatiuh and Diego Luna.
Ahead of the screening, Lopez introduced the film and thanked her ex-husband, saying, “Thank you so much, thank you everybody for being here tonight. Thank you, Ben, this movie wouldn’t have been made without Ben and without Artists Equity.”
Executive producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas stressed to PEOPLE at the premiere that Lopez is playing “three roles” in Kiss of the Spider Woman: “Ingrid Luna, the actress; Aurora, the role the actress plays; and Spider Woman.”
According to Goldsmith-Thomas, Lopez “went to a speech teacher to learn that mid-Atlantic” accent for her character, as filmmaker Condon, 69, ” wanted to do this very much in the style of the movies of the ’50s,” including filming everything “in one shot.”
“That meant that all of those dance numbers she did — from top to bottom, there was no cutting, there was no coverage,” she adds of Lopez. “It was extraordinary, and when [Bill] pitched her his vision, it was honestly exactly what you ended up seeing. He was that sure of what he was doing.”

“My mom was also the mom who got me into musicals and introduced me to all kinds of music. I am an entertainer because of my mom,” Lopez said in a February 2022 Rolling Stone cover story, adding that she is “able to survive the things I’ve survived in this business because my mom was tough.”
“I don’t think she could realize what she was preparing me for, but she did,” Lopez added.
Back in December 2024, Lopez dedicated a sweet birthday tribute to her mom on Instagram, sharing a carosel of photos including a close-up selfie, a candid shot of Rodríguez in hair rollers and a throwback photo of the mother-daughter duo all dressed up.
